Season 2019/20 overview
The new Royal Opera House season broadcasts 13 productions. It includes five new productions, three world premieres and the return of six much-loved heritage productions broadcast from London’s famous Covent Garden stage.
Leading operatic talent will once again feature on the cinema stage in three new opera productions – Bryn Terfel and Olga Peretyatko in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, Jonas Kaufmann and Lisa Davidsen in Beethoven’s Fidelio, conducted by Antonio Pappano, and Nina Stemme and Karita Mattila in Richard Strauss’ Elektra. This will be complimented by the return of much-loved revivals. The cinema season opens with Mozart’s Don Giovanni with Erwin Schrott in the title role, followed by Puccini’s La bohème with Sonya Yoncheva and Charles Castonovo. Later on Mascagni’s Olivier Award winning Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci will be broadcast featuring Roberto Alagna and Aleksandra Kurzak.
The Royal Ballet will feature seven cinema productions including two world premieres – The Dante Project and The Cellist / Dances at a Gathering. Repertory classic Coppélia and The Sleeping Beauty will delight audiences, as will Liam Scarlett’s critically acclaimed Swan Lake. In addition to the live programme, new for 2019/20, cinema audiences can see a recorded showing of The Royal Ballet’s festive favourite, The Nutcracker in December 2019.
The Royal Opera House cinema season offers audiences the best seat in the house, and include exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, interviews and incredibly detailed close-ups of performers.
